elcome to Monterosso in Spigno Monferrato and the beauty of an Italian countryside you may have thought long lost in time. Located on the edge of the village (1400 citizens) which provides all essential services including, grocers, bank and post office, baker, butcher, hardware store, petrol station and police station. Arguable the best restaurant (Regina) in the district is located in the village with further choice of a pizzeria for simpler yet tasty meals or bars/cafes. A small market takes place on Wednesday morning when the local school bus gather senior citizens from the nearby villages and give then an opportunity to catch up on the latest exchange of important and less important news.

our holiday home is perched high above the road with scenic views and lots of light throughout the whole day. You are within a generous enclosed mature garden with specimen trees and lovely spots to retreat in sun or shade. The beauty is that you can see out whilst it is very difficult to see in from the neighbourhood. The size of the garden may require that parents supervise younger children whom may otherwise be out of sight and unsupervised. If you are lucky, you may see a deer pass through the garden at dawn or dusk.
Built in 1936 for the local cinema owner (sadly long gone) the property has retained its exceptional signs of grace and grandeur with spacious and generous rooms conveniently on one level. Providing up to 4 double bedrooms, bathroom (bath, basin and bidet) and WC (WC and basin), the modern kitchen includes gas oven, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine. A living/dining room and entry sun room foyer complete the accommodation. The house has steps to enter aswell as adjacent to access the gardens and thus is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Seating on the terrace in the evening, you can enjoy the setting sun with views of the neighbours vineyard. Depending on the time of year you visit, the local sounds may include tractors attending to there meadows and fields, the sound of the local hunting society and their dogs in search of trophies including wild boar, tree cutting and seasonal preparation of the woodlands, the flow of water through the nearby stream feeding into the Bormida river that skirts both sides of the village. Happy voices of the cycle teams often pass climbing or descending the hilly ground beyond the village.
Don’t forget to visit the roman toll bridge that spans the river behind the village or the pallone elastico handball games if one is happening during your stay. Spigno Monferrato is located on the N30 road connecting to Savona on the coast to Acqui Terme, with its thermal spa and gateway to the Langhe hills and its beautiful vineyards. Also served by the national railway network, the station is located on the far edge of the village.
We can advise local points on interest subject to your interests and level of activity you want to apply whilst on your holiday.
It is difficult to reason why such an accessible region is still a special secret to insider and select visitors. The motorway network connects to the N30 and connects to the airports of Milan, Turin, Nice and closest Genoa.
